The Nyangmey House, is the first private museum in Bhutan, a historic building which is a very old Bhutanese traditional farmhouse dating back to pre-zhabdrung period with significant history. As such type of traditional buildings are increasingly disappearing, any reasonable initiative towards the conservation and sustainability of the building is respected by the Dzongkhag Administration and Gewog Administration. Nyangmey Village Museum performs an essential role of preserving the true rural lifestyle of Bhutanese and the transition from more than 600 years contributing to the principles of Gross National Happiness.
Mrs. Denkar is the ninth generation, the owner of the house, with the vision to preserve the house and the cultural values, initiated the conversion of the house into a museum in 2013 with the help of Mrs. Deki Yangzom as the acting Curator and her son Mr. Thinley Dorji as the Museum Manager.
Our main objective lies in enriching the visitors with the core values of tangible and intangible cultural heritage and keeping alive the significant cultural expression for the younger generation of Bhutan.
